Today is the first day of October – October is associated with the start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere – Imagine, it all begins and ends with October, spectacular colors everywhere; a festival of a season, a last hurrah of sorts, while simultaneously an awakening.
"The fields are harvested and bare, / And Winter whistles through the square. / October dresses in flame and gold / like a woman afraid of growing old."
Anne Mary Lawler, "October," in George William Douglas, ed., the American Book of Days (1937)
I will not be sad that summer is gone… but rather celebrate this painted gift bursting of colors. I will breathe in the crisp air and listen to the sound of leaves playfully rustling in October afternoons.
